Position Responsibilities

Tree Climber

Tree Care

  • Perform pruning, removals, cable bracing, and general tree care.
  • Climb trees without spurs using proper climbing and rigging techniques.
  • Safely remove trees using appropriate climbing and rigging methods.

Climbing & Rigging

  • Use ropes, saddles, climbing gear, ladders, rigging equipment, lowering lines, tag lines, throw ropes/throw-balls, double-crotch techniques, and spikes when appropriate.
  • Perform aerial rescues when required.

Equipment Operation

Safely operate:

  • Chainsaws
  • Aerial lifts (bucket trucks)
  • Climbing and rigging equipment

Tree Knowledge

  • Apply ANSI Class 1–5 pruning standards.
  • Demonstrate proper pruning cuts and branch collar knowledge.
  • Identify native and introduced tree and shrub species.
  • Identify and climb island tree species including Mango, Lychee, Macadamia Nut, Mountain Apple, Citrus, Plumeria, Ironwood, Banyan, Ficus, Monkey Pod, Shower, Albizia, Coconut Palm, Schefflera, and others.

Safety

  • Identify hazards and follow all safety procedures.

Groundman

Tree Care Support

  • Assist with tree removals, pruning, and debris disposal.
  • Learn proper tree care techniques and tool use from experienced crew members.

Equipment Operation

Safely operate:

  • Chainsaws
  • Chippers
  • Large dump trucks
  • Heavy equipment

Equipment Maintenance

  • Inspect, maintain, and report issues with tools and equipment.

Worksite Responsibilities

  • Haul heavy equipment.
  • Keep worksites clean, safe, and hazard-free.

Safety & Communication

  • Wear proper PPE.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors.
  • Follow instructions immediately, especially during hazardous situations.
  • Communicate effectively with the crew.
  • Remain calm while working around falling branches.

Qualifications

Tree Climber

Experience

  • 3+ years tree care experience required .
  • Rigging experience.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proper pruning practices for large shade and ornamental trees.
  • Tree care safety standards.
  • Chainsaw and aerial lift experience.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years old.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Valid Class 3 Driver License/CDL with a clean driving record.
  • Positive attitude.

Groundman

Experience

  • 3+ years tree care experience required 
  • Rigging experience.
  • Experience hauling heavy equipment and driving large dump trucks.

Requirements

  • Valid Class 3 Driver License/CDL with a clean driving record.
  • Good physical strength, fitness, vision, hearing, balance, and depth perception.
  • Willingness to work in unfavorable weather.
  • Positive attitude.
